Having read 46,000 applications, we now have seen an array of summer experiences that kids have embarked on. We’ve read every thing from summer programs at prestigious universities, to work that is gaining at their local mall, to climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro (literally). We admire students that pursue their passions.

Here is a short directory of summer time activities you could pursue:

  • Volunteer at a hospital, park, library, aquarium or museum
  • Become a Camp Counselor at a summer camp
  • Train to be a lifeguard at your local pool, lake, or coastline
  • Baby-sit your neighbor’s kid
  • Take a college-visit road journey

Professional Development

Things have started initially to settle down across the office now that all freshman decisions have been made. We’re still working on reviewing transfer files, but our staff recently took a quick trip to Reno, NV to attend a professional seminar.

While there, we attended sessions about various admission subjects and greatest techniques, such as exactly how to produce a successful school that is high, what types of technology might be useful in the recruitment process, and how to read college essays while being aware of our personal biases (positive or negative). The seminar also offered us a chance to get in touch with our peers from various components of the country, including many of your high school counselors. It was a great opportunity to share our own knowledge and expertise and learn from the other person. Perhaps the most seasoned admission counselors on our staff discovered one thing brand new at the seminar!

Summer is our opportunity to rest, review what we’ve learned within the last 12 months, and prepare for the coming year. Develop you’re able to do the same during your summer break!

Summer in the City

It is officially summer in Southern California! Campus is a bit quieter, the conditions are becoming warmer, & most importantly, the rate in our office has slowed down. We’re also advantage that is taking of downtime to explore Los Angeles and all which our town has to provide our students.

Like in previous summers, we’re using the Summer Restaurant Series, planned by some of our very own colleagues, to explore the cuisine that is local. Just last month, we ventured to 23rd St. Café in USC’s yard. This restaurant that is unique United states, Indian, and Mexican food, in addition to some fusion dishes. The Chicken Tikka Masala quesadilla was quite popular in our group! For the second food outing, our restaurant series took us to Umamicatessen. According to the internet site, this location is ‘inspired by international road bazaars and also the classic American delicatessen’ and will be offering 5 different kitchen areas serving up diverse forms of food within a hall that is dining inside the Orpheum Theatre. A few of our favorite meals during this outing were the truffle fries, made-to-order donuts, and different forms of Umami’s specialty: burgers.

Besides consuming our way through some of Los Angeles’s notable restaurants, we will invest time during July and August attending cultural occasions and checking out historic spots around the town. Some tasks we will experience include a tour that is guided of Disney Concert Hall and Music Center, enjoying the Downtown LA Art Walk, and hopping in the newly opened Expo line to simply take the train to the Culver City Farmers Market.

What restaurants, activities, and outings do you enjoy around Los Angeles? Tell us into the opinions section—maybe we are able to add your suggestion to our list this summer!
